Here at Albany Clinic, we place importance on being able to provide exceptional services to all our patients, no matter what age!

We ensure that all aspects of your child's health & wellbeing are discussed during your appointment for their immunisations. As such, your appointment will be scheduled with both GP and nurse. One of our lovely nurses will first have a chat with you, and record your child's measurements, including height, weight & head circumference. Please bring your child's Personal Health Record ("red book") with you.

After your initial visit with the nurse you will then go through for a general health check with your GP. During this time, your GP may ask a few extra questions and check if you have any concerns. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have during any of these visits.

After your check with the GP, you will then be taken back to our nurses who will administer the required immunisations. You will be required to stay in the clinic for at least 15 minutes following immunisation to monitor for any adverse reactions.

Side effects after immunisation are usually mild and can last 1-2 days. You may notice:

  • Mild fever
  • Redness, swelling & tenderness of skin around injection site
  • Unsettled
  • Tiredness

Sometimes, a small, hard lump at the injection site may persist for some weeks or months. Paracetamol and a cool compress on the site can be helpful to ease discomfort.

If you have any concerns following your child's immunisations, please phone the clinic to discuss with a nurse or doctor. If it's an emergency, call 000 immediately.
