Snoring and Sleep Disorders

Snoring and sleep apnoea can be important health concerns because of their affect on the quality of our sleep.

Dr Andrew Murray has over 10 years of specialised experience in the treatment of sleep apnoea and particularly welcomes new patients who are experiencing sleep loss and are in need of a better night’s sleep.

Sleep Disorders

Approximately 40% of Australians will suffer some form of sleep disorder during their life, ranging from insomnia to sleep apnoea.

Clinical symptoms include: excessive daytime sleepiness, fatigue, memory impairment, mood disturbance, decreased libido, impotence, social withdrawal, cardiovascular disease and an alarming increased incidence of automobile related accidents and death related to driver sleepiness.

Snoring

Snoring comes from vibration of either the soft palate – at the back of the mouth, vibration of the tongue or the relaxed walls of the airways in the throat. It can be disruptive to the sleep of snorers as well of their partners, which can lead to some of the symptoms listed above – in other words a decrease in quality of life.

Not everyone who snores suffers from sleep apnoea, but many habitual snorers do suffer from sleep apnoea and its associated symptoms. | Treatment Options

Sleep Apnoea

Sleep Apnoea is a condition that causes people to stop breathing more than five times per hour, most often relating to a narrowing in the throat during sleep.

Sleep Apnoea affects approximately one in every twenty-five people and can have significant impact on a sufferer’s quality of life.
