Baby Health Checks

After your child is born, a series of baby health checks are recommended to ensure that your baby is healthy and his or her development is progressing normally. These visits will cover a range of topics from height, weight, and development, to feeding, sleeping, and behaviour.

When should children be checked?

Children’s health and development should be checked at:

  • birth
  • six to eight weeks
  • four months
  • six months
  • 12 months
  • 18 months
  • four to five years

Who performs these checks?

Baby checks at birth are performed in hospital by a paediatrician. All other checks are usually performed by your GP, and are timed to coincide with your visits for routine immunisations.
